Consultation and Coaching

I frequently get emails from folks who are seeking advice or support as they tackle new goals or persistent problems. I’ve spent the last twenty years working as an interpreter, teacher, professor, psychotherapist, and social-justice educator. I’ve worked on research teams, published academic articles, served on organizational boards and committees, presented hundreds of lectures and workshops all over the United States, and am currently working on a book series. These experiences afford me the skills and experience to provide sound advice about achieving personal goals.

Through consultation and coaching work, I can help clients address goals such as:

  • Getting ideas and advice for solving problems
  • Examining how you work with clients, and how you might improve
  • Developing content for classes, workshops, and presentations
  • Exploring potential career options
  • Learning more about the practice of psychology
  • Establishing a consultation relationship with other mental health clinicians
  • Learning more about gender and sexuality
  • Evaluating goals and assessing progress
  • Receiving feedback and edits on written projects
  • Exploring barriers to success and creating plans for improvement

It’s important to note that consultation and coaching are very different from the practice of therapy. I am compliant with the requirements set forth by the Texas Board of Examiners of Psychologists, which include a thorough and important set of ethics regarding appropriate and competent psychological care. Active patients under my clinical care are not able to retain me for consultation or coaching, because that would create a dual relationship that would be counter-therapeutic.
